Structure

Designing fixed auditorium seating starts with the chair base, or platform, offered in steel and cast iron models. Steel platforms are popular in auditoriums, arenas, places of worship and lecture halls due to their beauty yet durability and functionality. In addition to basic steel bases, there are models designed exclusively for high-end wood bottom chairs or with options such as cantilevered feet for additional aesthetics, perfect for a performing arts theatre. Not only does this particular platform accept various accessories, it comes in fifteen different powder coats to meet customer specifications.

Cast iron platforms are more commonly specified in sport venues where maximum durability due to wear and tear is of importance. Formed from class 25 gray iron, cast iron platforms are available for outdoors settings as well, perfect for your favorite sports team. This platform comes in fifteen different powder coat colors, multiple armrests and accepts various accessories. Additional platform options include rockers and recliners.

Custom options are also available.

Irwin Seating Company offers over 40 different seating backs to fit any use or venue. Most chair backs are compatible with any seating platform, seat or end panel model. Often specified in a stadium, ergonomically designed blow-molded plastic backs are a durable option. For a lecture hall or place of worship, customers may opt for a back with a 2” thick back poly for added comfort and aesthetics. Additional options included upholstered and non-upholstered plywood back veneer surfaces, common to performing arts theaters for added style and beauty.

Back models are available in a variety of shapes, thicknesses, finishes and colors. Decorative tufting, lumbar support and number plate options are widely available in many models.

Similar to chair backs, seats are available in blow-molded high impact resistant polyethylene, upholstered and non-upholstered contour molded hardwood, or poly cushions in a variety of thicknesses. Seat lift is accomplished through the use of a 13 gauge extension spring or cast iron counter weight for maximum longevity,

Many models do not have exposed hardware on the bottom surface of the seat for an overall appealing design and to prevent tampering. Many also pass the 600 lb. static load test and surpass the ASTM-851-87 Test Method for Self Rising Seat Mechanisms

Seat models are available in a variety of shapes, thicknesses, finishes and colors.

Regardless of your venue, an end panel or standard creates the ideal finishing touch to any fixed auditorium seating. End panel and standard models are designed to work with all other Irwin Seating Company chair components. Available in a variety of construction options including medium density fiberboard surfaced with HPL or wood veneer, HDPE polymer, class 25 grey iron and aluminum. End panels are offered in a variety of shapes and designs including:

  • Tapered
  • Radiused
  • Rectangular
  • Rounded Corners
  • Full
  • Crescent
  • Keystone
  • Signature (vertical front edge and curved rear edge)
  • Enclosed (tear drop shape with central panel insert)
  • Open
  • Decorative (hand painted highlights or other designs including replicas of the 1920’s, 1930’s and more)
  • Custom

More intricate, lavish designs are often found in performing arts or historic theatres.

Each project, need and venue is unique. Steve Ward & Associates will assist and guide with design, budget and install for your new fixed auditorium seating seeing your project through from beginning to end. Chairs will ship by components and be installed on site. Seating will be one of the last items assembled on your job site to avoid damage from construction, paint and other activities.
