Project Spotlight: Golisano Children’s Hospital

Steve Ward and Associates had the honor of participating in a project for Golisano Children’s Hospital. Golisano is a wonderful hospital serving a large area of southwest Florida and specializing in acute pediatric care. We focused on technology, state-of-the-art equipment and patient privacy for this project. Golisano focused on providing a family and kid-friendly space that was not only functional, but welcoming.

The project had been in the works since 2001 and finally in May 2017, they opened their doors to their new addition. It features a 300,000 square foot seven story tower that will provide care to numerous patients, children of all ages, at a time. In the tower, 128 private patient rooms can be expanded to fit 160 patients. Also included are 64 private neonatal intensive care units.

76,000 square feet of renovation has been completed in the existing Healthpark Medical Center, as well as the new construction. The total cost for this project was approximately $250 million.

SWA is honored to be an integral part of this project. We are proud of our ability to provide a great deal of quality, functional and beautiful furniture and accessories per Golisano’s specifications in a timely fashion.

Furniture Provided:

Laminate Casework

We also provided durable, laminate casework throughout the entire tower and Medical Center. This includes patient rooms, visitor areas and common spaces shared by medical professionals. This casework can be easily maintained and cleaned. This makes it the perfect piece for a hospital. In addition, we used a beautifully textured wood grain laminate to create a warm, welcoming and peaceful environment for patients and employees alike.

Nurse Stations and Reception Desks

These are a great examples of custom millwork SWA is able to provide and fabricate in-house. Included in the nurse stations and reception desks were 3Form Resin panel graphic art accent pieces providing a beautiful aesthetic to these focal points on each floor. In addition, for employee comfort, we added stainless steel footrests where applicable. Doctors and nurses spend a great deal of time on their feet, so adding options to provide improved comfort wherever possible is a must.
We designed each nurse station with a unique, bright color. Each floor had its own color sequence and the stations used the color on the countertops and ledges to create a fun and exciting look and experience for the children.

Solid Surface Countertops

The solid surfaces provide a beautiful stone appearance but are non-porous disabling germs and liquids to seep in. Patient safety and germ containment while still providing a desirable aesthetic were of utmost important at Golisano. In addition, sinks where integrated where applicable.

Solid Surface Panels

In additional to solid surface countertops, we also installed solid surface panels to the wall, some including a thermoformed radius for a softer look. We conveniently hung signage and other graphics from the panels.

Solid Surface Reading Nooks

Designed as a comfortable, recessed space for children to utilize. To create a beautiful and safe space, we used material to the countertops and panels.

Chapel Kneeler

Gift Shop Glass Shelves

The shelves were a perfect addition to display product. This is a great example of accessories SWA can provide when managing a project. Success is truly in the details, even in the form of shelves!
