The SWA Way

This morning on my way to Nashville’s SWA office, I purchased a blueberry muffin from a local bakery. My only request when ordering was for the attendee to warm the muffin for me. Seeing the ovens in the background and with the smell of fresh baked goods in the air, this didn’t seem like an unreasonable request. I guess that is why I was caught off guard when the attendee directed to a microwave on the other side of the restaurant lobby and told me I was welcome to heat it up myself.

This simple illustration stood out to me as a reflection of the state of customer service today. It’s a state where you interact more with a credit card swiping machine than you do with the person behind the cash register. Personal service seems to have been replaced by lower front end price and impersonal forms of communication.

I get it.

There are so many demands which pull us in every different direction. We’re all busy and we just want to move onto the next task at hand. I’m guilty of this myself at times. The longer I’m in the business world though, the more I notice you receive the value for which you pay.
