The Importance of Prefabrication and Evidence-Based Design in Healthcare Crises

Flattening the Curve

The race to create hospital beds across America is on as the COVID-19 threat grows into a larger crisis than previous expectations. As cities enforce Stay at Home orders, Americans are quarantining in an effort to ‘flatten the curve.’ In other words, reduce the rate of infection to prevent healthcare systems from overwhelming.

Even with these efforts, the COVID-19 crisis is showing to be more serious than hospitals were preparing for. Hospitals in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, and other cities are making other arrangements. In order to house patients outside of their facilities, they are taking extreme measures. In Los Angeles and New York, the Navy’s 1,000-bed hospital ships are preparing to take in overflow of patients from large hospitals. Companies across the nation are donating hundreds of thousands of masks so essential workers can have protective gear. Even distilleries in our home state of Tennessee are halting their liquor production to make hand sanitizer instead.

How We Can Help

forWard® is a company whose main goal is to ensure the health, safety, and efficiency of so many of these healthcare workers and hospitals affected by this pandemic. We are committing ourselves to making sure that in the case of another crisis, the buildings and systems we serve are ready. It is impossible to foresee all of the complications an outbreak like this will cause. However, we can better prepare with flexible, evidence-based designs, prefabrication, and the proper equipment.

The SWA and ForWard® family are keeping those affected by COVID-19 and its fallout in our prayers. We send our thanks to everyone doing their part – essential workers, hospital staff, and those staying home to keep their communities safe.
